Frequently Asked Questions
Concierge medicine, redefined healthcare by offering personalized, high quality care tailored to your unique needs. With more time for each visit, minimal wait time, and a focus on preventative and lifestyle medicine, we provide a patient centered experience that prioritizes your well-being and long-term health. Experience the difference of a practice designed around you.
Our concierge medical services complement, not replace, your health insurance. While your insurance continues to cover traditional medical needs like labs, imaging, and specialist visits, our practice offers enhanced services through a convenient monthly membership fee. This fee ensures you receive the personalized care, extended appointments, and proactive wellness focus that go above and beyond standard insurance coverage.
We want to offer better care and this model allows us to do just that. With our experience treating patients in rural areas with minimal equipment and electricity during our mission trips to Colombia, we realized those skills have been lost in modern medical offices here at home. We genuinely love to treat and help others and are thrilled to have the opportunity to do so with this concierge model.
The rise of Electronic Medical Records created the challenge of balancing patient care with complex insurance coding requirements and the demands of insurance companies. The outcome? Doctors spend an average of just 8 minutes per patient. Furthermore, doctors must see a high number of patients daily and manage extensive patient panels to simply cover the costs of running a practice. This is due to yearly insurance payout reductions that started around 2014 and even earlier with Medicare. As a result, patient calls frequently go unanswered, individuals are often directed to the ER or urgent care, and a significant portion of care is shifted to mid-level providers.
This model allows us to put the focus back on our relationship with you. We maintain a small office with a dedicated staff and limit the number of patients in our practice to ensure personalized care.
Office visits are much longer, giving us time to address your concerns thoroughly.
You'll reach for the doorknob before the doctor does.
Your calls will be answered, and your issues will be promptly addressed. You'll have access to our personal contact information and multiple ways to connect with us, including telephone, text, email, and video chat. If an in-person visit is needed, our goal is to provide same-day or next-day access.
Yes, your insurance will continue to be billed if you have a concierge physician. Concierge care provides enhanced services not typically available in a standard medical practice, such as same-day or next-day appointments, direct physician communication, extended office visits, and coordination between your concierge physician, Dr. Marshall, and your other healthcare providers.
Dr. Marshall maintains a smaller patient base to focus more attention on each individual, ensuring personalized care. While the membership fee covers the additional benefits, our practice will still bill your insurance or Medicare for covered services. It’s important to keep your insurance to cover standard healthcare needs, as the membership fee only applies to the enhanced services provided.
Yes, our medical practice is not a health insurance program. It’s essential to maintain insurance and/or Medicare to cover costly, unexpected events such as surgeries, emergency room visits, hospitalizations, labs, and X-rays. However, insurance isn’t necessary for everyday preventive primary care!
In fact, the current insurance-based healthcare system often makes primary care more expensive, less accessible, and less effective. Our practice takes a different approach. By charging a set membership fee, we can dedicate more time to your individual health needs, focusing on maintaining and improving your well-being. You’re encouraged to see us as often as needed—our goal is to have healthy and happy members!
Hospitalization can be one of the most vulnerable times for patients. That’s why we maintain privileges at the local hospital system, giving us real-time access to your results and information during your stay. While a 'hospitalist'—physicians who specialize exclusively in hospital care and are available 24/7—will be assigned to oversee your care, we maintain close working relationships with these providers.
We encourage patients and families to notify us of any hospital admissions. We often discuss the expected course of your hospitalization and help clarify the goals of your stay, ensuring you feel supported and well-informed throughout the process.
Concierge care is ideal for anyone seeking a personal and meaningful relationship with their physician. While patients with exceptional health insurance or high monthly premiums may not experience significant cost savings, they can greatly benefit from the enhanced, personalized care that concierge medicine provides. For healthy individuals, especially those with high-deductible plans, concierge care can be a valuable option. The monthly membership often covers most primary care needs without additional visit costs.
In addition, concierge physicians frequently collaborate with local community services to provide cash-pay pricing for labs, imaging, physical therapy, and more. These fees are often lower than insurance co-pays, giving patients the flexibility to pay upfront and potentially save on overall healthcare expenses.
Yes, we can arrange to see you at home on a case-by-case basis when medically appropriate. Depending on office demands, home visits may also be available upon request for an additional fee.
As your primary care physician, my extensive training enables me to address most of your healthcare needs. However, if you require a specialist, I will ensure you are referred to the right doctor and fully informed about who you’ll be seeing. This process includes direct communication between me and the specialist before your appointment, as well as coordination to streamline your visit.
After your appointment, if you have any questions or concerns about the specialist's recommendations or care, I will be available to address them through an office visit, phone call, email, or video conferencing.
For non-life-threatening issues, you can reach us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In most cases, we can diagnose and treat your concerns without the need for an ER visit. In fact, concierge medicine has been shown to reduce ER visits for members, as we are available to discuss your medical needs at any time, day or night.
For life-threatening emergencies, call 911 immediately. A family member or caregiver can contact us afterward to inform us of your situation, so we can stay in communication with the emergency room team.
As a member of Mission Concierge Care, you are never alone. Even if we are out of town, our office remains available by phone for your urgent needs. You’ll receive email notifications in advance of any planned trips. If we are unavailable, a trusted medical professional will be ready to assist you with urgent matters or provide in-office care as needed.
Yes, one of the key principles of Mission Concierge Care is maintaining a smaller practice size to ensure we can dedicate ample time and attention to each patient. Once Mission Concierge Care reaches its ideal practice size, we will establish a waiting list.
You may cancel your membership at any time with a 30-day notice. If you have paid for a full year in advance, we will issue a prorated refund for the remaining period.
